Cinema Retrow was delighted to bring the fun and excitement of drive-in movies to Trowbridge!
Over 2,000 people visited Innox Mills last weekend to see 11 popular feature films screened on a giant 60sq metre screen over the 3 day event. Many were local, but some came from as far afield as Bristol, Winchester, Swindon and London.
Making the most of the weather, film fans arrived in vehicles of all shapes and sizes, from convertibles to classic cars and camper vans.
Two lucky Platinum VIP competition winner, Samantha and Ollie from Bath, enjoyed Saturday night’s screening of Joker snuggled up under the stars in the back of a SsangYong Musso Rhino, the UK’s largest pick-up truck, with glasses of bubbly, sweets and popcorn!
As it was a scorchio 34C+ on all three days, event guests were allowed to sit outside their car on the left hand side to allow for social distancing, which added a fun, summer picnic feel to the drive-in cinema experience.
A number of film fans brought along props and toys to reflect their film’s theme. A family of young Lion King fans shared their picnic rug with a small pride of cuddly Simba lion toys and Elliot Turner from Trowbridge arrived in his convertible dressed as Elton John to watch Rocketman on Sunday.
The digital in-car speakers produced excellent quality sound and people could be heard singing and clapping along to the films in their cars.
The roller skating waiters and waitresses whizzed delicious freshly cooked burgers, spicy hot dogs, vegan wraps, ice cream, sweets, popcorn and chilled drinks to the cars, all ordered via an in-car smartphone app.
As people drove away at the end of the event, many asked when the next event will be taking place. A 75 year old lady said it was the best time she’d had in years and that it brought back wonderful memories of her last drive-in cinema experience in America 50 years ago.
Jonathan Dean, owner of the Innox Mills site which hosted the event, said:”We were so pleased that our Cinema Retrow drive-in events were such a success. It’s very satisfying being able to put on a large event in these strange times.
“We’ve had some wonderful feedback from people complimenting our friendly security and steward team and saying what a fun idea it was to have their food delivered by roller skating waiters and waitresses. They also commented on how safe they felt at the event thanks to the social distancing and health and safety measures we had taken.
“I’d like to thank our event partners The Platinum Motor Group, Webcreation UK, EweMove, Most Wanted Wine and the Hills Group
and also our brilliant local food and drink providers Sweet Sensations from Trowbridge, Lacock Dairy Ice Cream, Kettlesmith Brewery in Bradford on Avon and JC’s Kitchen from Trowbridge.
We also organise the monthly Innox Market on the 3rd Sunday of each month and have a number of other exciting events in the pipeline, so watch this space!
